The Purrtastic Presents story

Hi, I'm Nicola, the founder of Purrtastic Presents! I've been a proud cat lady for as long as I can remember and a creative soul for just as long. During the 2020 lockdowns I was craving a creative outlet and a way to honour my two beloved rescue cats, Peggy and Sally. Whatever I created, it had to be cat-related. Obviously.

As I looked at what was already out there, I quickly hit a wall. So many cat t-shirts and mugs looked exactly the same: recycled slogans, generic paw prints, and designs that just felt… dull. Where was the originality? The boldness? The fun?

That's when I had a lightbulb moment: why not make my own? I decided to create a range of bold, sassy and fun clothing and gifts for cat ladies, designed by a cat lady. And so Purrtastic Presents was born!

It didn't happen overnight. It took months of trial and error: finding the perfect name, designing the logo, learning how to launch a clothing line, getting everything made sustainably in the UK and USA, and tackling the beast that is building your own website (spoiler: it was not easy).

I design every item myself, and I only sell things I'd genuinely wear, use, or gift to a fellow cat lover. Each design is made with cat-titude, heart and a whole lot of humour.

My mission

To shake up the tired "crazy cat lady" stereotype and replace it with something way cooler: bold, funny, empowering designs that help cat lovers express who they really are. Because let's face it, being a cat lady is awesome.

What does "Purrtastic" mean?

It's a mix of "purr" and "fantastic"! Yay! 🐾❤️

Peggy & Sally: where it all began

Peggy and Sally, two Ragdoll-type rescue cats, sitting side by side

Back in 2005 I was ready to welcome my first cats as an adult, and I knew right away I wanted to adopt. That's when I found Peggy and Sally, a beautiful pair of littermates whose elderly owner had sadly passed away. At just four years old, they suddenly found themselves without a family.

When I saw their story and those soulful adoption photos, I felt an instant connection. After a home visit from the rescue and a trip to meet them at their foster home, I was over the moon to be approved as their new cat mom.

They weren't just pets. They became my soulmates, my shadows, my constant comfort through life's ups and downs, full of sass, affection and gentle wisdom. Years later they became the inspiration behind Purrtastic Presents, and their journey from rescue cats to cherished family members is the heartbeat of everything I design.

Although they're no longer with me physically, their memory lives on in every product, every design, and every little moment of joy this shop brings to fellow cat lovers.

Bodhi, a black and white rescue cat, lounging on a cushion

Who is Bodhi?

After Peggy and Sally passed away at 17 and 20, their absence left the biggest void in my heart. Some time later their vet told me about a 10-month-old cat who had been abandoned at the surgery. He wasn't neutered and was scared of men and other cats 😢 He needed a loving forever home, so I said yes without even meeting him, because it felt meant to be. That's how my sweet, independent and cheeky Bodhi came into my life. ❤️

Bailey, a tortoiseshell rescue cat, sitting on a cat tree by the window

Who is Bailey?

About two years later I saw a post from the same vet: five kittens had been dumped outside their door on a busy road in cold November weather, all crammed into one carrier. I had my heart set on the little tortie girl. We drove down to London to meet her and she tugged at my heart strings. I was lucky enough to be chosen, and that's how my beautiful, feisty and sweet Bailey came into my life. ❤️

How we help cats

Purrtastic Presents has partnered with Pledge so that 3% of every order is donated to the Oxfordshire Animal Welfare Sanctuary. 🐾❤️

Giving back has been part of the story from the start. In May 2021 my partner Steve and I took on a running challenge — I ran 62 miles and he ran an incredible 125 — raising £1,000 for the Hounslow Animal Welfare Society, a no-kill animal welfare organisation in West London.

Rescue is my favourite breed, and every order you place helps support cats in need.

Not only about cats

I love all animals! I've been featured in national and international news after leading rescue efforts for a swan that landed on the railway tracks in South Acton, West London, in January 2022. I documented everything and organised a volunteer from a wildlife bird rescue to collect him on a freezing night. He was checked over and released back onto the Thames a few days later.

My posts were picked up by the media and shared by news agencies around the world, and I was interviewed for the Channel 5 show When Train Journeys Go Horribly Wrong.

You can also find me running the Quirky Cat Mom community on Facebook, all about spreading pawsitivity with uplifting cat content. 😻
